Roofing for Ipswich homes

From iron-roofed Queenslanders in Booval to tiled estate homes in Yamanto and Brassall: when to repair, restore or replace, who is licensed to do it, and an easy way to ask for a quote.

Why Ipswich roofs need local thinking

Ipswich has some of the oldest housing in South East Queensland sitting next to estates built in the last twenty years. That means corrugated iron on timber homes, concrete tiles on 1980s and 1990s brick homes, and summer storms that test both.

Old iron on timber homes

Many older homes in Booval and Bundamba still have corrugated iron roofs on timber battens. Rusted laps, popped nails and tired flashings are the usual leak points.

Tile roofs reaching middle age

Concrete tile roofs on 1980s–2000s homes in Raceview and Flinders View are at the age where ridge bedding cracks and tiles go porous.

Summer storms and hail

South East Queensland storms bring hail, wind and heavy rain from about October to April. Lifted sheets and smashed tiles are common call-outs after a big one.

Asbestos in older homes

Asbestos cement sheeting was common in Queensland buildings before 1990, including roofs and eaves. It changes who can remove it. Read the rules.

How a quote request works

  1. Describe the roof
Suburb, roof type, the problem, timing and a budget band. About two minutes.
  2. We pass it to a local roofer
Taylor Made Media Pty Ltd, which runs this site, reads your request and sends it to one local roofer with the right QBCC licence.
  3. The roofer contacts you
To ask questions and arrange an inspection and written quote. We email you their business name and QBCC licence number. Your details go to no one else.

Restore, repair or replace?

Repairs suit a roof that is sound overall: a few cracked tiles, a lifted sheet, a failed flashing or loose ridge capping. Restoration (clean, rebed or repoint the ridges, replace broken tiles, recoat) suits tiles and framing that are still sound. Replacement makes sense when tiles are porous and cracking across the roof, metal has rusted through, or battens are failing. Many owners of older tiled homes now replace with metal, which is lighter and needs less upkeep.

Roofing work in pictures

Typical jobs on local homes. Flashings and gutters cause as many leaks as the roof sheets or tiles themselves.

Common questions

How much does a new roof cost in Ipswich?

Published 2026 Brisbane-area guides put a metal re-roof at about $80–$180 per m² and tile-to-metal at about $100–$160 per m², with tile restorations around $4,000–$11,000 for a typical home. Ipswich prices may differ; a firm price needs an inspection.

Can I restore my tile roof instead of replacing it?

Often, if the tiles and battens are sound and the problems are at the ridges or in the surface. If tiles are cracking and porous across the roof, replacement is usually better value.
